Designed for a party of 3–6 characters of levels 8 to 12, this adventure introduces a delightfully terrifying and unexpected boss monster. It works as a standalone encounter or fits in as an investigation mission within the Consortium series.
A Desperate Decision
Late in the civil war of Merak, the elite forest rangers known as the Henrell Scouts built a fortress atop a hill over an old dungeon to defend their forested home. Driven to desperation, their leader Captain Amiloup freed Guttanguis, an ancient spirit of blood and thirst bound by druids centuries earlier. The spirit turned the captain and his scouts into vampires, who successfully drove away their enemies.
However, their victory was short-lived. Forces from the faction led by Oros the Shadowed diverted a nearby river to surround the castle with a moat of running water, trapping the vampires inside before staking Amiloup. But Amiloup’s coffin had been replaced by a mimic. Instead of dissipating, the spirit of Guttanguis merged with the mimic, creating Mussup—the Vampire Mimic. Mussup fed upon its fellow mimics, transforming them into loyal vampire spawn mimics.
Decades later, loggers have returned to the forests. One logging camp was attacked by wolves sent to gather victims for the vampires. The adventuring party Milo’s Marauders was hired to deal with the wolf attacks but vanished into the woods. Now, they serve Mussup as vampire spawn. The Adventurers’ Guild needs the party to find the missing adventurers.
